Introduction
Bilbo, Gandalf, and Thorin are characters in the novel "The Hobbit." The Hobbit by Tolkien expresses an imaginary adventure where Bilbao, Gandalf, a wizard, and other dwarves join to reclaim a territory guarded by the dragon, Smaug, in the lonely mountain. The adventure begins when Bilbao meets Gandalf. Gandalf informs Bilbao that he is searching for a partner for the journey to the lonely mountain to reclaim their treasure protected by a dragon. Bilbo declines the call but invites Gandalf to his house for a meeting. The following day, the wizard and other dwarves visit Bilbo home, where they socialized and had fun while orchestrating the adventure to reclaim their treasure. Although these characters are not normal human beings, the author portrays them as having human character and identity.
Like normal human beings, Bilbo, Gandalf, and Thorin are great characters in the novel with qualities linked to personhood. The psychological, societal, and biological nature defines the nature of human identity. Although they are not real human beings, the author highlights Bilbao, Gandalf, and Thorin as characters assuming human identity and behavior. Bilbo is a creature that enjoys and lives like a human being. Physically or biologically, Bilbo is a domestic creature enjoying good food, his hobbit-hole, he is domestic, and is fond of life (1). A normal human being will be grateful for a satisfying life. It means that social status is a greater definer of human identity. Bilbo is enjoying varying meals and his cozy habitat in the hill. The hobbit hole was Bilbo home, and it was his comfort (1). Also, Bilbo comes from a wealthy Took family. It implies that Bilbo possesses a reasonable amount of resources to enlighten his life, just like a normal human being.
Bilbo
Bilbo showcases a human being's psychological aspect when there is a conflict of interest between enjoying his comfort at his home and going for an adventure. In the aspect of a human being, people face conflicting decisions to forego one desire to fulfill another. Bilbo demonstrates such conflict of interest when he can choose between leaving his comfort and going for a journey to reclaim a lost treasure secured by a dragon. Bilbo becoming a hero from being a burglar at the start of the story, indicates how determination and inner strength off a human can lead to success. It signifies the crucial role of interplay between physical, social, and psychological in achieving set goals. Transforming from a robber to a hero illustrates the aspect of wisdom, courage, leadership, and bravery. Bilbo took the risk with unknown consequences, which denotes the human behavior of exploring new environments and challenges in life to define ones' personality.
Gendalf
Gandalf is a character in the novel, acting as a mentor and a leader in unifying dwarves to regain their lost treasure. The world is full of organized groups that require direction and motivation to achieve specified objectives. Gandalf portrays this aspect of a human being when he mobilizes dwarves to reclaim their gold from Smaug. The leadership and mentorship character played by Gandalf helps Bilbo to discover himself as a hero. Thorin is a warrior leading his fellow community to the mountain. However, the author demonstrates Thorin as a disturbed character in the journey. Characterized by stubbornness, violence, greed, and failure, Thorin depicts personality diversity in the real world. The actual world consists of diverse personalities with varying opinions, life purposes, and characters. In a team, varying personalities are essential in allocating roles for the successful completion of a project. Each of the three character played a different role in winning the battle. Thorin led fellow dwarves, Gandalf was the mater of the plan and counsel, and Bilbo was the hero.
