Introduction

Mary Shelley, in her book Frankenstein, creates a picture of an ugly creature that is heartless as he kills people in his quest for vengeance. The creature’s life is full of malignity and aims at causing pain into the presence of his creator by killing those close to him. He only lives for vengeance and enjoys hurting his creator. He finds happiness in killing and causing pain in people. Through this, he could execute his revenge. His nature, together with the appearance, gives a clear picture of a great monster that no one can imagine. The mischief, the malignity, and the misery in his life can be explained by just one look. His deformity is enough to justify the rot in his heart. A heart that does not care about other people’s pain and only focus on his wants: the monster can destroy the whole world to have it for himself. However, behind the ugly fiend is a good-hearted creature which the reader did not recognize until the creature shared his experience.

Despite killing people, including his creator, the creature was filled with agony and remorse for his actions. The groans and cries of people he made to suffer hurt his feelings. He could not bear the pain, but he had to execute his revenge to put an end to his sufferings. The killings were like torture, making him live like a slave. Even though he was filled with vengeance, his heart was fashioned to be susceptible to sympathy and love and could not bear the agony of his victims also after he was wrenched by misery to hatred. Hatred kills both the soul and the body, and it was slowly killing him. He was left to be lonely all his life, denying him all he ever wanted, peaceful coexistence with everyone. When everything you care about has been taken away from you, all you can wish for is to die, and the monster felt hollowness inside him driving him to the killings.

Just like any other being, the creature hoped for love, enjoyment, fame, and happiness in his life. He had dreamt of peaceful coexistence with other people in which he would be able to contribute to ensuring a better experience by bringing some good qualities of life. The creature depicts the creature as a living being, which is determined to have a happy and enjoyable life through interactions with other individuals. When denied all he had longed for, the creature turned to be the meanest animal in the world. All the virtues he valued became like a shadow to him. The happiness and affection had turned into bitter and loathing despair to him, making him feel lonely and in his world. As a result, the vengeance part of him started to come out, making him hurt many people. Despite his actions, he is a good-hearted creature who desires a better life like any other person, but the unfair treatment he receives from those he interacts with changes his nature ultimately into a cruel being.

When the creature was created, the creator had high expectations about him. The creator expected to get a lot of happiness from him; however, he could not grant him this wish and instead caused him pain and misery in his life. The creature also had his desires, which he wanted to achieve, but due to the life he was subjected to, he could not accomplish any of them. The situation haunted and made him unhappy at some moments. The miserable life he lived was due to his inability to achieve his goals. Therefore, he turned into a cruel being, even though he was filled with the desire to live a better life. Failure always brings the worst in people. No one likes failing, as it shows your weaknesses. However, just like the creature, people try to lift themselves from the failures with all they have, but if a better result cannot be achieved, the person may turn to be bitter just like the monster. Failure made him bitter with his creator, making him have a strong feeling to hurt him.

Conclusion

After killing his creator, the creature feels he has executed his vengeance and could now rest peacefully. Even though his actions haunted him, he felt a little relief. He had completed his mission, and no other creature like him will be created, this is a show of love and caring to the people. He was happy knowing no being will have to go through what he had gone through. The emptiness which drove him into killing the most generous and devoted being he knew will never be felt by anyone. He also felt like he was the worst being that ever existed. However, he took full responsibility for his actions. Even though he moaned him dearly, remembering his hopes for the creation, the creature knew he could not do anything to bring him back. He realized his wrongdoing but also acknowledged it was not entirely his fault. Even though the situation directed him into taking action, he could not justify himself. He had to take responsibility for his actions by punishing himself for the sins he committed. He had to die and let the people live a happy life again. For this, he went away into the darkness to die and put an end to the sorrows he caused.
